The waterfalls

On the 9th of August, the youth boarded the bus and went to the Aruu waterfalls. It was a bit of a treacherous journey due to all the rain! We reached the top of the falls and began the descent. It was very steep and slippery. We were given sticks to guide us. We had to cross part of the river, some kept their shoes on while others went bare foot.  Many of us fell in a hole in the rocks and were sporting different cuts and grazes - oops.  We finally got to the base of the falls and stood staring in wonder and the sheer power of the waterfalls.  We all took lots of pictures at the base.  On the 12th of August we all boarded a boat and travelled to the bottom of Murchison falls. We saw hippos, lots of crocodiles, birds and colobus monkeys. We also got very close to an elephant which was special for many.  On our way back to Entebbe (13/08/25) we ...

The benefit of bras

The women of Pill, triumphed (sorry) with donations. Exceeding all expectations I received nearly 300 in a couple of weeks!. These have been distributed to 4 locations in Uganda and were very gratefully received. The Mother's Union women will distribute to friends and family whilst girls from the Nebbi young mothers and Hope for Life charity will also benefit. There was much fun and amusement at handover. A few pictures..... ~Gaye

It was both fascinating  and shocking to see conditions in this slum, over 20 000 people crowded in a small area with just 4 public toilets. The narrow alleyways had dirty water  flowing down them, made worse by sewers and occasional flooding. It was encouraging  though to see how the project is bringing hope by supporting families and training young girls in hairdressing.  Some of the group went shopping next in a craft market and came back with lots of colourful clothes, jewellery  and other things. In  the afternoon  some of us went on a wonderful boat trip across part of Lake Victoria  to the Mabanba swamp. On the search for the elusive shoebill, we found one kindly posing for numerous  photos, a large, rare strange ...
