Visit to remote health centre

Janet, Gaye, Sue and Laura all visited St Janani Luwum 2 Health Centre. Although only 50k from Kitgum, it was a very challenging journey to get there due to heavy rainfall. Following a diversion due to a truck stuck in the mud and much prayer, we arrived safely in the remote village of Lira Palwo.

We had many people waiting to greet us from the clinic staff and also the clinic and renovation project management teams. We were so encouraged to see the refurbished clinic rooms with plastered walls and new roof. The vaccine fridge was being tested and approved and large solar panels waiting to be installed. Tony Blaire (with an 'e'!), the Lab Technician was proud to show us the new microscope and how it is used to diagnose different strains of malaria and various infections. We heard reports from the staff of how improvements in the services provided means more of the local villagers are accessing the clinic and health promotion and treatment of malaria, in particular is saving many lives (particularly of children). Canon Ben led us in a time of worship and thanksgiving for all that God has provided in that remote place to improve the lives of the community.
